How to create a content plan in 1 hour.

What is a content plan?

A content plan is where you set out all the different posts you’re going to put out into the world. It’s taking your content strategy and putting it into action, post by post. Yes, the can be complicated, but they don’t have to be. If you’re wondering how to create a content plan quickly, read on for a step-by-step guide.

Start with your content goals [Set timer: 15 mins]

Want to shift customers from Etsy to your own website to save on fees? Want to grow your email list? Need to decide which colourways to launch next? What do you want to achieve? Write down 3-5 goals.

Add calendar events [Set timer: 5 mins]

From Small Business Saturday to Mother’s Day to Veganuary to Pride, there is a plethora of events that - IF relevant for your small business, can provide rich and effective content ideas. What calendar events are coming up for you? Not only do they provide a ton of content ideas and opportunities, they also help to build a loyal tribe of likeminded people who love what you’re into.

Determine what content posting schedule is best for you [Set timer: 5 mins]

Jot down how long it takes you - roughly - to create a post, a Story, a reel. Now decide how much time you want to commit to creating every week [yes, EVERY week - consistency is key here]. Be realistic. It has to be sustainable to stick. Now calculate how many pieces of content you can feasibly create in the time you’ve allocated.

Get plotting! [Set timer: 25 mins]

For each post jot down:

- What is the post about?

- Which goal does it link back to?

- What do you want your audience to do after reading it [that’s your CTA].

Bring in your hashtag strategy [Set timer: 10 mins]

If your hashtag strategy is non-existent - or you literally have NO idea what I’m talking about - choose some hashtags from each of these buckets:

Who are you? eg #sustainableswimwearbrand

What are you posting about? eg #sustainablefashion

Who are you talking to? #slowlivingforlife

What do they want? #slowfashiontips
